The Taste of  Maryland
is the Restaurant Association of Maryland's signature Government Affairs event. Held each year at the Loews Annapolis Hotel, the event brings Maryland's hospitality leaders together with their state legislators  to advocate for the industry and sample food from restaurants around the state.

The 26th Annual Taste of Maryland took place on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the Loews Annapolis Hotel. Over 350 guests attended the most celebrated legislative reception of the year. Attendees met their state legislators, attended educational seminars and sampled delicious dishes from 31 Maryland restaurants.

The next Taste of Maryland Legislative Reception will take place on January 16, 2017.

Work Smarter: Let the Maryland Office of Tourism Development Work For You
Presenter:  Heather Ersts | Maryland Department of Commerce
The Maryland Office of Tourism Development offers a multitude of opportunities for restaurants to promote themselves, while generating interest in tourism across the state. This seminar introduced attendees to free resources available to them as a business owner.

To Accommodate Or Not To Accommodate
Presenters:  Albert B. Randall and Sarah Lemmert | Franklin & Prokopik Attorneys at Law
The last year saw a number of landmark court cases and new state and federal regulations expanding how, when and why Employers need to provide reasonable accommodations to their Employees. These changes particularly impacted religious, gender identity/transgender and pregnancy accommodations. Attendees learned about these new changes and developments in the law and how they impact every aspect of the workplace.

Updating Your Employee Handbook
Presenter:  Michael Lentz | Franklin & Prokopik Attorneys at Law
Labor and Employment laws, rules and regulations are constantly changing and in response, Employers need to continually update their Employee Handbooks to mirror the current legal landscape. Attendees took this opportunity to find out what provisions in their Employee Handbook need updating and what provisions and policies could be putting them in hot water without even knowing. 

2016 Maryland General Assembly Legislative Preview

A riveting informational session that outlined the major legislation state lawmakers will be considering during the 2016 legislative session. Attendees learned which issues would have the largest impact on Maryland’s hospitality industry and what they could do to lobby on behalf of our industry.
