The Cornerstone Award is given to the individual or company who best illustrates that the Foodservice Industry stands as the cornerstone of the community and the economy. Their successful businesses support their local communities by creating multiple job opportunities, and by financially supporting non-profit groups, schools, scouts, and youth sports teams. Recipients have also contributed greatly to the State’s healthy economy—creating jobs, purchasing goods, and paying innumerable taxes and license fees.

While The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille has 19 locations, each is considered a local “watering hole” in its community. The company started the Funds for Friends program as way for each location to get involved with the “friends” living in their community. The program invites a community organization to host a “Funds for Friends” event at The Greene Turtle to raise money for its cause. Community partners decorate the restaurant with their organization’s colors and logos and recruit members, friends and family to attend their fundraising parties. The Greene Turtle donates 10 percent of the day’s sales to the organization, donates prizes for event raffles and features slide shows with images from the nonprofit on TV screens. Over the past three years, Funds for Friends has raised more than $150,000 for organizations in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Delaware.
