In 2000, the Restaurant Association of Maryland established a “Hospitality Hall of Honor” to recognize those industry leaders who have exhibited hard work, dedication, courage and creativity while representing the Hospitality Industry in Maryland. Tonight’s five Hall of Honor inductees all live up to the high standards set by each and every one of our previous year’s inductees. |
Located on the City Dock in Annapolis MD, McGarvey’s Saloon and Oyster Bar has been a tradition for boaters and locals alike for over thirty years. Owned by Mike & Carol Ashford, McGarvey’s opened July 19th, 1975. The basic concepts around McGarvey’s were crafted by Mike, a former USAF fighter pilot and commercial pilot. Mike drew from all his experiences and visits to countless saloons, bars, gin joints, cafes and restaurants that he came across as a pilot. He mixed it up with his own common sense philosophies and a wee touch of his uncle Manus McGarvey’s Irish sensibility (with whom the bar is named after) and a business was born!
McGarvey’s specializes in fresh seafood and local oysters with a heavy focus on burgers, steaks, classic saloon fare and comfort foods. Creative Specials are also one of their fortes. McGarvey’s is known worldwide thanks much in part to Mike’s connection to commercial aviation, the military and the Naval Academy. Also, many sailors from all over the world have passed through their doors. Jim Fishback has been the General Manager of McGarvey’s for 24 years, having joined the staff in 1976 as a busboy.
Since McGarvey’s is an independently owned restaurant, the money spent at McGarvey’s stays in town. Their staff is your neighbors, your friends, your sons and daughters. McGarvey’s is an authentic American Saloon -- no frills, no gimmicks just good old fashion American character and integrity. It’s a place to meet, drink, eat and live your life with fervor.
