This award recognizes Hot New RAM Member Restaurants that have opened in Maryland between Jan. 2005 and Jan. 2007. (formerly the Maryland Diner’s Choice Award).

Salt Tavern established in April 2006 by owner-chef Jason Ambrose and his partner Jane Ambrose delights in making old things new. Nestled in a newly rehabilitated 100 year old building in East Baltimore, Salt invites its customers to experience a redefinition of the traditional corner tavern so common in city neighborhoods of the past.

At the heart of this experience is excellent food. Chef Ambrose’s unique approach to updating old food favorites with fresh, flavorful ingredients creates the basis for a menu that strives to be appreciated and reflects Salt’s commitment to offering its customers simplicity and bold crisp flavors. Complementing this menu is a wine list reflecting Salt’s dedication to offering a diverse selection of excellent wines at affordable prices.

Customers are invited to dine in an intimately small dining room known for the beauty of its preserved brick walls and hardwood floors. Art from local artists dress the walls and the now infamous green lights soften the atmosphere of both the bar and dining room. Food and drink are served by Salt’s staff of highly experienced and knowledgeable servers quietly attentive to their customer’s needs and management’s strong commitment to service. Outside is Salt’s neighborhood, a Baltimore City community changing with the times; a place where Jason and Jane strive to be both successful business owners and good neighbors.
