The nominee is an executive chef or chef de cuisine who demonstrates consistent standards of excellence and serves as an inspiration to other food professionals. The nominee displays a dedication to the artistry of food, exhibits an ongoing commitment to the community and may be from any type of establishment. The nominee must have been a chef for the past five
years with a minimum of two years in Maryland by January 1, 2009.

Chef Bruce Wetterau, owner of the Granary Restaurant & Sassafras Grill in Georgetown, MD, has been with the establishment for over 16 years. In addition, he along with his wife, Jerren, own and operate Kitty Knight House also in Georgetown. The restaurant is known for its traditional eastern shore cuisines and has been awarded Best Family Restaurant by Chesapeake Bay Magazine, Best Restaurant in Kent County by the Cecil Whig and Best Seafood Restaurant by the Middleton Delaware Flier.
Chef Bruce and Jerren are very involved in helping local schools’ culinary programs, constantly training, mentoring and discussing career opportunities available in the culinary field. He has also donated much of his time to the surrounding community participating in local fundraising events such as Delaware’s Coast Day and Delaware Tech’s Gourmet Gala both of which raise proceeds for scholarships. Chef Bruce’s hands on approach and attention to detail have earned the highly regarded reputation both his establishments have today.
