  • By 2027, the US restaurant industry will employ over 16 million people.
  • 8 in 10 restaurant owners say their first job in the restaurant industry was an entry-level position.
  • 9 in 10 restaurant managers started in entry-level positions.
  • Between 2007 and 2012:
    • Restaurant Businesses increased by 12%,
    • Female-owned Restaurant Businesses increased by 40%,
    • African-American-owned Restaurant Businesses increased by 49%, and
    • Hispanic-owned Restaurant Businesses increased by 51%.

Maryland has over 11,000 eating and drinking locations. Over 250,000 people in Maryland work in restaurant and foodservice jobs. That's 9% of all employment in the state.
